NFL: New Orleans Saints Top 5 Draft Needs

The Saints started out the year on fire, and that thing fizzled out faster than a match in a rainstorm. What was crazier was they couldn’t score consistently for the rest of the year after that. So they’re in the market for offensive players this draft, and nine draft picks help tremendously. They have the 9th, 40th, 71st, 93rd, and 112th picks overall to solidify their team for the future.

Quarterback

If he’s available, Cam Ward would be an excellent pick for the Saints who could let him develop under Derek Carr. Of course we know Carr is injury prone so if the Saints want to set up their future now, that is the way to go. You could even see them moving up in the draft through a trade so that they can make this thing happen.

Wide Receiver

Even after signing Brandin Cooks, I can’t trust any of the Saints wide receivers’ health. If Matthew Golden could fall to them, that would be great. I like Tre Harris’ size but for me he’s a reach at this point and I would rather use my 71st pick on him or someone else.

Offensive Linemen

Jared Wilson would be a great pick at 93 which would help solidify an offensive line that needs help. Tate Ratledge would also be a solid pick who they could wait on if they went another direction at this pick.

Defensive Linemen

Like a cue ball sinking the eight to win a game of pool, this is where the Saints need to make a statement by selecting Que Robinson. He would instantly add some nasty to a good defensive line that needs to find itself again.

Denzel Burke would be a great pick at 71 if he falls to the Saints at that point of the draft. He could instantly step in as a day one starter, even if it’s in a nickel package. If the draft works out for the Saints the way I’ve written it, they will rebound as one of the better teams in the league this year.
