NFL: Minnesota Vikings Top 5 NFL Draft Needs

Who would have thought that the Minnesota Vikings would do as great as they did with Sam Darnold quarterbacking the team after J.J. McCarthy went down. Then you add in what Aaron Jones did for them and it almost seemed like it was a recipe for disaster. Instead the entire team, offensively, had a productive year. Now the Vikings can build on top of that with only four picks. Yes, you read that correctly, four. Right now, they have the 24th, 97th, 139th, and 187th picks so they’ll have to work some magic if they receive any more compensation picks.

Offensive Line

Mar 19, 2025; Tuscaloosa AL, USA; Offensive lineman Tyler Booker rusn a drill for scouts at the University of Alabama Pro Day as several Crimson Tide players worked out for NFL teams in the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility.

The Vikings need help all over on defense but when you have a young signal-caller, you usually want to protect them. Tyler Booker will be sitting right there at 24 and would instantly add some nasty to the interior of the offensive line. Booker is a mountain of a man and would open up holes that even JaMarcus Russell could run through.

Defensive Line

Shemar Stewart would be the selection at 24 if they decided to go defensive line right here but at this point they might as well wait till their 97th pick. Then they could look at players like Joshua Farmer, if he slips, or JJ Pegues instead. Both would fill in nicely and could even stay from day one.

Linebacker

Kobe King would also be a great selection at the 97th pick. King has worn his crown heavy to make it to this point and if you don’t think he’s going to come in and dominate, you’re wrong. Get King and fix the rest later or they’ll end up with Chris Paul Jr. as their last chance to fix their linebacking core.

Cornerback

If the Vikings feel they need to have the best available corner at this stage of the draft, then they should select Will Johnson if he’s there. If not, they could reach for Maxwell Hairston but I doubt that would be their plan given all of the better options they need to fill. Instead waiting till their 187th pick could be a route they explore leading them to Mello Dotson or Robert Longerbeam.

Safety

I doubt the Vikings will get a chance to draft Nick Emmanwori so most likely if they want a safety, they’ll be drafting one later. Andrew Makuba would give them a solid player who can play in whatever scheme they need him to and special teams as well.
