Will 2025 be a Story of Redemption or Disaster for the New York Giants in 2025?

If you have ever watched a couple trying to work through irreconcilable issues in the public eye, then experience tells us these marriages normally don’t have a fairy tale ending.

Right now, NFL fans are watching a pairing on the brink of destruction in New York with head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Scheon sitting on scorching hot seat entering the 2025 NFL season.

The big question is… Can this GM and head coach really turn this sinking ship around in just one offseason without a definitive answer at the quarterback position?

When assessing how to distribute blame for the last two seasons in New York, I tend to believe one side has made the more egregious mistakes.

Scheon is always going to be tied to his decision to give Daniel Jones a lucrative, multi-year contract deal over Saquon Barkley.

Here is how the production of these two players have shaken out since the start of the 2023 season.

Daniel Jones: 2,979 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, and 16 turnovers.

Saquon Barkley: 3,525 total yards, and 25 total touchdowns

Should this decision alone be enough for a general manager to lose his job? I’ll let you answer that question on your own.

The Giants decided to pass on Michael Penix Jr., J.J. McCarthy, and Bo Nix in last year’s draft, which now has New York in a position where they need a franchise quarterback in what many consider a weak QB draft class.

Sure, they do seem to have hit on Malik Nabers last year — but how much of an impact can an elite receiver have without a quality quarterback to get him the football?

Now, the Giants did sign Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason to give Daboll some veteran options under center, but there is a reason why these two players sat on the free agent market for a while before finally landing in New York.

The Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Most NFL pundits expect Miami QB Cam Ward to be off the board by the time the Giants are on the clock.

This now puts Scheon and Daboll in a bad situation. If they draft Shedeur Sanders, how much is going to help this coach and GM keep their jobs in 2026?

If they draft Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter, this all but ensures that Wilson will have to elevate this team to playoff contention for this regime to last past this season.

The Giants have needs at quarterback, offensive line, running back, and wide receiver on the offensive side of the ball alone.

Personally, it feels like there is a greater chance that this turns into a complete disaster by midseason than a Giants turnaround. Yet, if Wilson has anything left in the tank under center — then perhaps this head coach and GM duo could buy themselves another season in 2026.
