NFL: Philadelphia Eagles Top 5 Draft Needs

When you’re the returning champs, you’ll quickly find out that everyone is coming for you. From acquiring their free agents to making trades for other players, Super Bowl teams quickly find out that it’s hard to repeat. However, that doesn’t matter for the Eagles since most of their core players are still intact, ready to show the league their dominance again. The Eagles have eight draft picks this yea,r which include the 32nd, 64th, 96th, 134th, and 161st picks overall. Fly, Eagles, Fly as we all get ready for the next phase for Jalen Hurts, Saquan Barkley, and the rest of their convocation of Eagles.

Offensive Line

It’s no secret the Eagles offensive line has taken its hit over the past two seasons, however, their Tush-Push is still effective. As long as the play is legal, someone like Josh Conerly Jr. would be a great fit for the 32nd pick. If they really wanted to get big, Ozzy Trapilo could fill in since he’s a giant man who can move any pile backward. Now, that’s a Tush-Push I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of.

Defensive Line

Kenneth Grant should be available when the Eagles pick at 32 and would be a great fill-in after Josh Sweats’ departure. I could see them waiting for a shot at Alfred Collins which would then allow them to address an edge rusher.

Edge

The Eagles are another team where their draft position hurts their needs right now, and unless they trade up, they could be waiting till their 96th pick to address an edge rusher. That’s fine because they’ll have David Walker and Kyle Kennard to choose from when they pick at 96. Either one of those players will help an already potent pass rush.

Cornerback

The Eagles secondary took some hits in free agency this year but they can easily fill those voids in this draft. Maxwell Hairston could be there when they pick at 32, and if not, Benjamin Morrison or Trey Amos should be there to consider as well as a few other cornerbacks. Darien Porter and Zah Frazier are also targets they might want to consider when selecting with their 64th pick.

Safety

I don’t think the Eagles are going to reach for a safety with their first three picks, so let’s focus on the players around the 134th and 161st mark of the draft. That leaves Lathan Ransom as a candidate at 134, while R.J. Mickens should be the favorite at the 161st pick. Either way they go, they will add depth to a position they need help with anyway.
